WARNING: Healthy lifestyles will change your life!

Healthy lifestyles includes more than your health in fitness. Unquestionably if you want to have a healthy and fulfilling life you need to have eat right, exercise, educate yourself, and take care of your spiritual needs. You can also work on making your home a healthy and happy place to be. After you buy or rent a house your first step should be turning it into a home.

Healthy Homes



To maintain healthy lifestyles in a home you need to make it a healthy home. There are many steps you can take to do this. One of the most obvious is to keep it clean. That should be the responsibility of everyone in the family, including children.

Keeping your house clean and organized helps make your house a home on two fronts. Of course the most obvious is that a clean home helps prevent the spread of germs, which in turn helps us stay healthy. For all of us who lead very busy lives and may not have the financial resources to have someone come in and clean it becomes important to establish chores and regular routines so everyone can pitch and maintain the house. The second aspect is a well organized and clean home reduces stress and thereby also improves our well-being.

An important area to keeping a house clean is keeping the air clean. Of course, regular vacuuming, sweeping, and dusting does this, but a good air filter is incredibly valuable. It is important to get a good one, especially for your bedroom, and the prices can range up to several hundred dollars. Like most products you do get what you pay for.

The quality of the air also includes aromas. You can certainly use scented disinfectants and incense candles and the like to add pleasant smells to your house, but probably the best method is to use pure essential oils. Essential oils MAY even have health benefits aside from the psychological effects the aromas provide. Having a nice array of fragrant indoor plants can also be very beneficial.

Quiet Spaces

Another component of having healthy lifestyles is having a quiet space in your healthy home. Even in the smallest homes you should set aside a room - maybe your bedroom - where you can have a place of quiet solitude. Television and computers should NOT be in this quiet space, but music could. The music you listen to does matter.

The "harder" and louder the music the more it agitates the body and mind. Having worked with teens for years, there is a disconnect between their actions and what they say the music does for them.

We are not saying listen to hard rock, heavy metal, or any of the other genres of music that are loud and hard are bad for you, but we are saying they ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RELAX YOU! You do need to have quiet time to relax and think.

Outdoors

We cannot forget the outside of you home and its impact on healthy lifestyles. The same principals apply for outside your home. A well-kept yard not only makes your house look like a home, but it makes you feel better!

Having a garden, no matter how large or small, has the same impact. Having a nice quiet place to sit outside is also invaluable. For city dwellers having plants around can be vitally important.

Take the steps outlined here and your physical education will be extremely well-rounded. Most of you probably never thought about the impact of having a home has on your body and thus your well-being; yet, many of you have seen or experienced what happens to people when they live in an unclean, disorganized, and noisy environment.
